Speech by Sister Josephine

Faizel e Islam

When Saira invited me to say a few word on “Peace” tonight, I remembered the text from the Scriptures where we are told that Jesus wept over the city of Jerusalam saying “If you in your turn had only understood on this day the message of Peace.”
We, too, have wept over our City in the past two weeks and so perhaps it is even more important now that we re-double our efforts to attain this Peace. I can think of no better way for us to attain this than to offer you tonight the programme which Jesus suggested to us in what we know as the Beatitudes:
Blessed are the poor in spirit, theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven
Blessed are the gentle, they shall inherit the earth
Blessed are those who mourn, they shall be comforted
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for what is right, they shall be satisfied
Blessed are the merciful, they shall have mercy shown them
Blessed are the pure in heart, they shall see God
Blessed are the peacemakers, they shall be called children of God.
May the Lord bless our efforts for Peace and harmony in our City.
